WPRCA is sponsoring a scholarship to the NYSACAC Conference in June. This scholarship is available to a practicing school counselor. The scholarship will cover the cost of registration for the conference. If you are interested in attending please fill out the attached Scholarship Application and return by APRIL 30TH. Please indicate your commitment to the conference on your application (i.e. would you prefer a one-day pass or to attend the full conference?). Thank you.

Social Justice Frameworks: Acknowledging the Differences in our Students

Dr. Miller has her MSW from New York University and her Doctorate in Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She joined NYU as a faculty field advisor at the Westchester campus in 2001. She did agency social work for many years before switching to social work education. In her professional practice she specialized in mental health work, particularly with the chronic mentally ill and in work with violent and suicidal clients. Her doctoral research was on community response to disasters. Dr. Miller has worked primarily training and supervising students in the field for the last 15 years, first at Columbia University School of Social Work, and, for the last twelve years at New York University Silver School of Social Work. In 2013 she received the Silver School of Social Work award for Teaching in Field Instruction. She has a strong interest in the antioppressive practice model and teaches the Diversity, Racism, Oppression and Privilege course as well as chairing the School’s committee on Diversity and Social Justice. At NYU, in addition to her responsibilities as Assistant Coordinator of the Westchester campus and as faculty advisor for students at the Westchester campus, she is responsible for arranging field placements for all NYU students who live in Westchester County, Putnam County and in Connecticut. She has also taught the Seminar in Field Instruction for the last twenty years, first at Columbia and now at NYU, as well as advanced clinical seminars for field instructors.
