Social Justice Frameworks: Acknowledging the Differences in our Students

SYNOPSIS OF SPEECH 4-9-14-DR. ROBIN MILLER
Anti-oppressive/ Liberatory practice models provide an alternative to the cultural competence model in work with diverse clients. Anti-oppressive practice is predicated on recognition of the socially constructed nature of power differentials and the impact that has, both on clients’ lives and on our interaction with clients as clinicians. This talk will provide an overview of the model and discuss and illustrate the ways in which this approach changes our use of assessment and intervention skills.
